This chapter provides a brief overview of stationary fuel cell system deployment and capacity trends in the United States. There have been N = 7349 backup power installations in the United States since 2009 totaling 16.3 MW and both cumulative installations and installed power grew by over 50% from 2012 to 2013. There are N = 154 combined heat and power installations in the United States totaling 68.1 MW and cumulative installations and installed power grew by an average annual rate of 17% and 13%, respectively, from 2010 to 2012. Updated data for electricity‐only installations were not found for the entire United States, but in California there are N = 134 installations totaling 64.5 MW through 2013. Fuel cell electric system cumulative installations and installed power have grown at an average annual rate of 9% and 11%, respectively, from 2011 to 2013 in the state. Moreover, a large number of fuel cell electric installations (N = 71, 39.1 MW) in the state are in various stages of planning but not yet completed.
