This chapter presents a methodology for the planning and operation of students' transportation to and from school. It treats the school bus routing problem and proposes routing algorithms that could be applied when planning transportation for students who go to school using school buses. The chapter proposes a routing methodology for pedestrians, in order to provide the children a safer and more efficient way to go to school. It presents a “Safe Map” concept, a map with safety parameters integrated to its links and its nodes, is constructed both for the pedestrian and the school bus route. Also, various solving algorithms are used and compared, presenting a good performance and comparing a real case taking into account the safety framework presented in the chapter. These algorithms are developed within the context of the European Project SAFEWAY2SCHOOL.
