Traffic is dangerous, death does occur, and hazards are real and unpredictable. A recent study comparing traffic types across differing transit corridors revealed several issues to focus on when in traffic as well as risk reduction and mitigation strategies to improve safety. Traffic Hazards come in many types; these include but are not limited to the following: the driver or traffic user; animals; weather; other vehicles/drivers; impairment, inattention, intoxication; global warming potential; differences between men and women and between the young and the old; and differing road types and associated conditions. Each of these hazard categories has details that develop them as a liability. The driver or traffic user is typically the focus of traffic risks. Economics play several roles with regard to traffic risks as follows: vehicle condition, roadway conditions, fueling costs and options, and accident costs.
