The invention relates to monitoring the movement of a vehicle to mitigate traffic risks. A monitoring system detects and mitigates traffic risks between a set of vehicles. A set of vehicles include aground vehicle (GBV) (e.g., a motorized vehicle) and an aerial vehicle (ABV) (e.g., a drone) that is operable to track a ground object (GBO) (e.g., an unprotected road user or animal). The monitoringsystem performs a method comprising the steps of obtaining (301) predicted navigation data for a ground vehicle and an aerial vehicle, processing (302) the predicted navigation data to obtain one or more future locations of a ground object and detecting an upcoming spatial proximity between the ground object and the ground vehicle, and upon detecting an upcoming spatial proximity, causing (305) analert signal to be provided to at least one of the ground object and the ground vehicle.
