Avionics full duplex switched Ethernet (AFDX) has become the standard for data exchange between avionic functions. It is a switched Ethernet network adapted to the constraints of civil avionics. This chapter summarizes the context of civil avionics and the main characteristics of AFDX. It explains the components of delay incurred by a flow transmitted on the AFDX network in detail. The chapter shows the various approaches, which allow to bound this delay. Avionics denotes the set of electronic control and command systems embedded on board an aircraft. This includes, in particular, the CPUs and their software, the sensors, the actuators and the interconnection between these elements. The chapter presents two approaches such as network calculus and trajectory method for calculating upper bound of the delay. It shows results on an embedded avionic configuration.
