This chapter focuses on flows for which 3D representation is of utmost importance. This is the case for evacuations of buildings or public areas or even airplanes, trains or subway carriages, as well as for transporting components on a production line, for simulating road or for planning the crossroads or connections in a town's traffic, bus or tramway routes, for example. 3D treatment is required the volumes of the obstacles and free spaces involved, and the layouts of the places considered, are important elements of the simulation. The chapter presents and works through an exercise involving the evacuation of a building using the Pathfinder software developed by Thunderhead. Pathfinder can run its simulations in one of two modes, a standard mode and a mode which follows the guidelines of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) incorporating, among other things, the concepts of people density, speeds and movement limits.
