This chapter focuses on the statistical aspects during the derivation of the load severity. It talks about optimum track mixing. The chapter focuses on the derivation of design loads and strength requirements based on reliability targets. There is a variety of situations where random load descriptions can be useful in design and verification. The external input loads depend on many factors such as road quality and driver behaviour. The loads coming from the load environment vary in a random manner during operation and thus stochastic models are useful. A section focuses on the derivation of a target load. Depending on the derivation process, the target load is often characterized by rainflow matrices, range‐pair histograms, power spectral density (PSD) functions, pseudo damage numbers, or another kind of representation.
