The electromagnetic field can be analyzed using Maxwell's equations but the electric or magnetic field must be known to completely analyze the unknown field. The wave equation solution will begin with the Cartesian coordinate system but will be extended to cylindrical and spherical coordinate systems. The derivation of Maxwell's differential or integral equations can be derived using Stokes theorem and divergence theorem, also known as Gauss divergence theorem. The methods used to arrive at the approximations for good conductors and good insulator is the expansion of the attenuation and phase constant in an infinite series. Spherical coordinate systems are important for EMC analysis when dealing with the radio transmission of electromagnetic waves. The near field of antennas stores electric and magnetic field energy, and, therefore, are very important parameters when dealing with the radiated power.
