The Traffic Research Unit of the Vermont Agency of Transportation was faced with the need to revise its method for estimating design hourly volumes. After a literature search revealed that separate methods based on seasonal variations should be used for each group of continuous traffic counters, separate methods were developed for each of the six poll groups used by the Traffic Research Unit. These are all statistically reasonable and have seen limited use in practice with reasonable results.
