Existing data sources, in lieu of primary data collection, can provide an excellent means of defining a transportation problem. In this study, a corridor in northeastern Illinois was analyzed using several existing databases. This analysis provided a setting in which tools could be refined for special tasks, including developing a framework for problem definition, utilizing spatial analysis for problem definition, using survey data variables fully, and defining a workable approach to estimating daily airport trips.
