Regardless of the application domain, researchers are always interested in modeling natural phenomena in the simplest way while capturing key features and producing valid conclusions. The research presented in this paper extends a previous study by developing a simple model that estimates the traffic stream flow passing a moving bottleneck. Specifically, the research presented in this paper extends the deterministic modeling approach by considering differences in driver and vehicle behavior with simulated data generated with the INTEGRATION software. It is shown that the impact of speed distribution is more notable for high demand levels and results in a decrease in the passing rate, which is consistent with traffic flow theory. Finally, the paper demonstrates that the roadway jam density has no effect or a minimal effect on the bottleneck passing rates. With the presented extension, the proposed framework is comprehensive for estimation of the passing rate around moving bottlenecks.
