Thirteen Cr alloys were commonly used as oil country tubular good (OCTG) in corrosive wells. Recently, new high Cr martensitic stainless steels with improved corrosion resistance have been developed and used in practice. These materials containing 12 to 15 % Cr with Ni and Mo additions and lowering C contents. Most researchers reported that the corrosion rate for high Cr alloys is controlled by temperature, partial pressure of CO2, concentration of NaCl and pH value. Many corrosion charts were proposed for material selection. If quantitative estimation is enable, it becomes easier to choose optimum material for specific environments. While, estimation models for corrosion rate of carbon steel in CO2 environments were proposed, there are no estimation models for corrosion rates of high Cr alloys in CO2 environments. Many factors must be taken into account, such as temperature, partial pressure of CO2 and H2S, fluid velocity, etc, for establishing estimation models but our knowledge is limited. For the first step, this report deals with the effects of temperature, NaCl concentration and partial pressure of CO2 on corrosion rate of high Cr alloys and a proposal for numerical estimation model according to accumulated data.
