A large variety of forming processes with pressurized fluids have been developed in the past years. In this paper, a particular class of fluid-driven processes that are characterised by the simultaneous forming of two blanks in one die set will be presented. In hydroforming of sheet metal pairs, the pressure builds up between the two blanks and forms them into either side of die cavity. This way, a complete hollow body is obtained in one step out of two flat blanks possible made of two different grades of material. Hydroforming of sheet metal pairs is still in the state of pre-industrial research and development. The special potential of this process lies in the possibility to reduce the number of forming steps and to integrate additional operations, as piercing and joining. First steps have been made in the direction of prototyping for automotive components. Experience is currently being aquired through experimental work and numerical simulations in order to ascertain the technological and economical characteristics of the process.
