Pilot scale tests proved that 4-16 mm non-ferrous car scrap can be separated by means of dry processing techniques into its different valuable components with adequate grade and recoveries. A dry density separation, combined with an eddy current separation resulted in a high grade heavy non-ferrous metal mix, an aluminium product, and a residue containing rock, glass, wood, plastics, rubber etc.. Equipment was selected and modified for the processing of finer sized car scrap. A straight trough dry density separator is suitable for processing 4-16 mm non-ferrous particles. The newly developed dry process enables economic and environmentally friendly processing of non-ferrous car scrap.
