Active rotor blade-tips offer an alternative approach to the challenge main rotor active vibration control. The tips are actively pitched via a piezo-driven bending-torsion coupled actuator beam that runs down the length of the blade. A Froude-scale rotor model (tip Mach = 0.25) has been previously hover tested (open loop) and the data used to validate a coupled actuator and elastic rotor blade model. The correlation of the predicted active blade-tip pitch deflections and the experimental data is within 20% and the vertical root shears are within the same margin for 4 and 6 deg collective. The design has been revised and upgraded for near Mach scale (tip Mach = 0.47) and fabrication of components is in progress. It is estimated that the dynamic blade-tip pitch amplitude (half-peak-to-peak) will be 1.75 deg below 2/rev and increase up to 5.5 deg at 5/rev, taking advantage of the actuator torsion mode at 5.7/rev.
