The most effective and practical method for eliminating the filtering effect of the water layer for 3D submarine seismic is through the use of vertical geophones and hydrophones. The distributed telemetry digital cable systems or ocean bottom cable (OBC) were developed at about the same time, enabling the necessary instrument capacity. The benefits being revealed through processing and interpretation, increasing ratio of benefits-to-cost factors, are also focused.
