Woods and Hole Oceanographic (WHOI) and Jackson & Tull (J&T) are currently developing an improved moored instrumented buoy that includes capability for a full suite of meteorological sensors, water temperature, conductivity (salinity), biooptical sensors, and radiometers at several depths and an acoustic doppler current profiler (ADCP) for currents. The system can be deployed on continental shelf regions worldwide for ocean science studies. It uses the new generation of low earth orbiting (LEO) communication satellites for two-way, high throughput command and data telemetry.
