Mathematical expressions for the induced velocity of a vortex filament, that is submerged near a free surface and arbitrarily oriented relative to the free stream, are derived. The linearized free surface boundary conditions and infinitely deep water assumption are used. A vortex lattice code is then developed for the inviscid non-cavitating flow over a cambered swept hydrofoil flying near a free surface. The lift and drag are compared with available experimental data for unswept hydrofoils. Numerical results are presented for the effects of Froude number and depth on the lift and drag (wave+induced) of swept hydrofoils of finite span.
