A study of the corrosion fatigue behavior of a graphite/epoxy composite which is being considered as an offshore structural material has been carried out using compact tension (CT) specimens subjected to combined hydrostatic and axial loading. Unidirectional composite specimens with the applied load perpendicular to the fibers were examined in the as-received and conditioned (distilled water or seawater saturated) state. Specimens were investigated under ambient air, ambient seawater (or distilled water) and high-pressure seawater (or distilled water) conditions. The examination of failure surfaces will be discussed and possible mechanisms for the behavior will be offered. In addition, recommendations for future testing will be made.
