Neural network augmented model inversion control is used to provide a civilian tiltrotor aircraft with consistent response characteristics throughout its operating envelope. The implemented response types are the Attitude Command Attitude Hold, and Rate Command Attitude Hold. The controller consists of a unique combination of linear model inversion and a learning-while-controlling neural network. The use of Lyapunov analysis guarantees the stability of tracking errors and boundedness of the network parameters. The bandwidth separation of the command filter, the adaptation dynamics, and the actuators allows for implementation of handling qualities. The controller is evaluated using the nonlinear Generic Tiltrotor Simulation code.
