The simulation of the blow moulding of a fuel tank is considered in this work. The non-isothermal parison formation, clamping, inflation and warpage are predicted with viscoelastic constitutive models. Once the parison is inflated, it solidifies while in the mould and after part ejection. Simulation predictions are compared to experimental results obtained on an industrial scale blow moulding machine. Once the numerical modelling methodology is functional, one can perform a process optimization based on a desired objective function, such as uniform part thickness distribution and/or minimal part weight. The optimization is performed by the systematic manipulation of the operating conditions, such as the parison dimensions.
