The effect of plastic intake manifold on the performance and NVH of in-line 4 cylinder gasoline engine is studied. For engine performance, pressure loss cause by intake manifold and other components of intake system is analyzed. The disparity of intake temperature passing through plastic and aluminum manifold is measured when the engine is operated from cold start and in hot wide open throttle. As for NVH, the level of noise on engine is evaluated and the natural frequencies and the damping ratios of intake manifold on engine dynamometer is analyzed.
