The sheet metal forming severity analysis procedure has been introduced to provide the capability of predicting formability. Formability is defined as the ability of a material to be transformed by a specific process into a final design. Taking into account three key factors - material, process, and design - this technique is based upon the use of both types of Forming Limit Diagrams. It means that standard Keeler-Goodwin FLD and Stretch - Draw Diagram for formimg severity analysis are used. Construction of these charts describe correlation among sheet metal properties, tool and technological conditions to formability. Complex forming is approached by considering the basic parameters of the shape of the part, the material, and the tooling. Using the above technique efficient predictions of forming severity of oil sump stamping is made.
