The AEMS is a Russian/German joint development of an Airborne Engine Monitoring System for the Aviadvigatel PS 90-Engine and therefore suitable for the Tupolev TU 204 and the Ilyushin IL 76/IL 96 type of Aircraft. The AEMS main purpose is the acquisition and the monitoring of engine parameters, the generation of warning messages when exceeding the threshold, the communication of engine information to the cockpit after analysis, and data recording of event signals. Information concerning engine, controls and aircraft parameters are processed in the AEMS. In addition to the data provided by the FADEC Unit, dedicated sensors provide the AEMS with own signals for engine monitoring. Engine roll-down and start-up time, fuel consumption per hour, trend checks for several temperatures, speed and pressure signals as well as vibration monitoring and on-wing balancing are functions performed within the AEMS. The architecture, hardware and software aspects of the AEMS as well as future developments will be presented throughout the paper.
