Current advancements in mathematical modeling make it possible to simulate more complex test procedures and provide occupant protection assessments. This work provides some aspects of the modeling for out-of-position driver and passenger procedures in the software tool MADYMO, with the utilization of the Finite Element option. The objective was to develop a stable model with quick turn-around time, which will serve as an assessment tool for quick design changes in the evaluation of occupant protection. In addition to the modeling techniques for various out-of-position cases, this paper shows time history comparisons between model and test. Several parametric studies were performed to assess the sensitivity of the initial dummy seating position. Also, the limitation and issues of the current modeling methodology are discussed.
