Reduced ship motions leading to good seakeeping qualities are one of the main design objectives for small to medium sized naval warships. Conventional round bilge hull forms have limited seakeeping capability and several novel ship hull forms have been proposed. One of the most promising of these hull forms is the 'Deep Vee' concept which is considered to be superior in vertical plane seakeeping performance characteristics but may suffer from high lateral accelerations. A proven round bilge hull form and a Deep Vee alternative have been considered during the early stages of the design in order to achieve specified design requirements for a medium sized ASW Corvette for the Turkish Navy. Since test data for similar forms were available, validity of the computations were verified by using well established seakeeping software and a test program has been arranged. Large amount of data have been gathered from the computations which enables a rational comparison between the round bilge and Deep Vee hull forms. The results clearly indicate the advantages and drawbacks of the Deep Vee concept compared with a conventional round bilge monohull.
