This paper describes the development process and two different design alternatives of a new MCM (Mine Counter Measure) system für the RSWN (Royal Swedish Navy) which became the fall out of the process. The work effort, lead by Swedish DMA (Defence Material Administration), included international co-operation on both government and industrial levels. The designs, known as SAM II nd MACVAS, are both based on air cushion technology and the MCM application is remotely operated minesweeping. Neither one of these designs has yet been built and both exist as paper products only, e.g. development specifications. A decision of whether or not to proceed with any of the designs and the way ahead is however expected in the very near future from the Swedish Defence Headquarters.
