An Active Vibration Suppression (AVS) system for the CH-47D has been developed and successfully ground tested, achieving better than -30 dB vibration reduction. These results exceeded the design goal of suppressing vibration levels to less than 0.05 g in the cockpit, while not adversely affecting the cabin vibration. The AVS system consists of two electromechanical suppressors, a digital controller, high power drive electronics, multiple accelerometers and a rotor RPM sensor. Using a modulation scheme synchronized with RPM, the controller commands the suppressors via the drive electronics to produce high structural forces that attenuate the vibration at all the accelerometer locations. Each suppressor contains two spring mass systems driven by separate electromagnetic actuators. To minimize power consumption, the individual spring mass systems are tuned to resonance at the CH-47D's primary vibration frequencies, one at 11.25 Hz and the other at 22.5 Hz.
