The running of a ship at high speed causes dynamic trim angle changes. The increase of the dynamic trim angle causes uncomfort to the crew and passengers. Some onboard equipment and instruments can be also put out of function. Therefore, it is sometimes necessary to reduce the dynamic trim angle even when it its not desirable because of the increase of delivered power. The way of dynamic trim angle reduction, achieved by installing interceptors close to the transom stern, is presented in this paper. The influence of the installed interceptors on the increase of the volume and wetted surface is negligible, however, they act as a 'hard' obstruction to the water flow in the close vicinity of the hull. The carried out self-propulsion tests show the tendency of constant dynamic trim angle reduction in the whole tested speed range. At a speed v = 20 kn, when using a 32.5 mm high interceptor in the symmetry plane, the dynamic trim angle is reduced for about 26 %. The 6.5 % reduction of the delivered power achieved at the same speed (20 kn) when using interceptors is also significant. Interceptors, as simple devices for the reduction of dynamic trim angle, and the reduction of delivered power, deserve more attention and further research.
