Driving comfort quality can be improved by attenuation of vibrations by the polyurethane foam. A human transmissivity test, used to measure the vibrational characteristics of a TDI (toluene diisocyanate) and an MDI (diphenylmethane diisocyanate) polyurethane foam, showed that the TDI foam starts to attenuate vibrations at lower frequency and more efficiently at all frequencies after the resonance peak. A simple transmissivity test using a free mass has been developed that gives trends similar to the human test. Using the simple test, the TDI based foam has been optimized to give a lower peak height while maintaining its superior attenuation at higher frequencies.
