This paper describes the R&D on a SMES (superconductive magnetic energy storage) ultrainductor, a SEES (supercapacitive electric energy storage) ultracapacitor and an IMES (inertial mechanic energy storage) ultraflywheel for AEV (all-electric vehicles) and HEV (Hybrid-electric vehicles). The use of a self contained SMES, SEES or IMES secondary energy sources have the potential to eliminate the numeroous safety and routing problems associated with a fire hazard or contain corrosive materials. An alteration to a conventional DC chemoelectric storage (SB) is developed consisting of the SMES ultrainductor, SEES ultracapacitor or IMES ultraflywheel capable of storing superconductive magnetic, supercapacitive electric or kinetic mechanical energy. SMES ultrainductors, SEES ultracapacitors and IMES ultraflywheels have become more reliable and cost effective.
