The mileage of the bus in city traffic consists of continuous accelerating and braking. That's why the own mass of the bus is one of the most important factors of the fuel consumption of the bus. On the other hand the demanded lifetime for the buses is 20 years. This paper presents the work on development the chassis of the low-floor bus. Many problems have been met with the low-floor construction. The general ideas to solve the problems of this construction are discussed. Three different type of concepts are present. The first concept for the chassis is made of stainless steel. The possibilities to build the chassis with aluminum extrusions, honeycombs and the composites are discussed. The idea of the third concept is to integrate the floor for load-bearing construction. This construction composed of aluminum composites. Comparisons are drawn between the various solutions for the construction on the basis of structural performance, manufacturing issues and economics.
