Research work in the field of underwater arc welding is performed at theCranflied university of London. At depths between 500 and 1000 m are two arc welding processes effective. These are plasma welding and gas metal arc (GMA) welding. The university Cranfield investigates the application of the plasma welding at pressures equivalent to 1000 m water depth, in spiteof the large number of variables which come into play at depths of this order.
