This semi-empirical calculation presents a new method for a global calculation of heavy-duty vehicle emissions, which is largely based on systematized data structures. This systematization concerns emissions and driving behaviour. Thus it is possible to: use test results from statutory test cycles on a broad basis; easily determine future changes in emission behaviour;largely do without the layering of emission factors;carry out an analytical assessment of various emission-related measures. The work shows that it is not possible to treat the emission behaviour of different engine concepts in the same way for both partial load and dynamic behaviour. Except for NO(X), the basic comparison with results from the Handbook for Emission Factors resulted in very good correlations. A user-friendly and reliable emission calculation will be guaranteed by continuously enlarging and updating the database.
