This paper reports on the planning and development of a new low cost short distance mode, the Parry People Mover. This is a light tramway, powered by energy stored in a revolving flywheel. The flywheel is 'charged' by a D. C. electric motor on the vehicle supplied through a railside contact at the occasional passenger stop. Possible applications include access from car parks to shopping centres, leisure facilities of all kinds, and shuttle services between stations and town centres. With light weight components, pre-fabricated rail sections can be used to install a hundred metres of working tramway in a few hours.
