A higher order based theory is developed for structural and aeroelastic analysis of composite wing box sections with moderately thick walls. In this new model, each wall is analyzed using a refined displacement field to account for the variations in transverse shear strains through the wall thickness. Appropriate boundary conditions are imposed at the corners of the beam cross sections. Both in-plane and out-of-plane warping deformations are included in the analysis. The structural model is validated through correlation with other existing theories and available experimental data. The procedure is then used to perform aeroelastic analysis of composite wings with various ply arrangements. Numerical results are presented to demonstrate the effect of ply orientation on aeroelastic behavior, such as flutter and divergence speeds.
