The 3-D Rankine Source Method is applied to the computation of hydrodynamic forces and wave patterns of ship hulls moving in restrict water. Parabolic curved panels are adopted to model the hull surface and a body fittedgrid is chosen to divide the local free surface. The lifting effect is simulated by a vortex surface placed on the longitudinal central plane of the ship and vortex filaments trailing from the whole vortex surface. The emphasis of this paper has been put on the study of free surface and canal bank effects on the hydrodynamics forces. The obtained conclusions may servefor the safety improvement of ships in restricted water.
