There are many realistic cases for ships and offshore structures subjected to repeated impacts from hard objects other than waves, especially platforms suffering impact from supply vessels. Little work has been reported and specific guidance is lacking. In this paper, both experimental and theoretical investigations are presented to study the repeated impacts phenomenon. A good agreement between experiment and theory is achived. Simple formulae are given to estimate plating damages. From the analytical solutionit is found that no pseudo-shakedown occurs in the case described. Relevant experimental results are presented to support this theoretical prediction. An illustrative example is given to estimate the damage of a column ofa semi-submersible subjected to repeated impacts from a drifting supply vessel.
