Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes (RANS) and hybrid panel/Euler methods are used to examine the stator and rotor interaction for a marine propulsor configuration. This approach separates the effects of potential and viscous interactions between blade rows. Three-dimensional steady Navier Stokes solutions define the overall flow features for the stator-rotor propeller. A benchmark propulsion pump was tested extensively in a water tunnel to develop a comprehensive database for both the wakes of the rotor and the stator. Based on the three-dimensional (3D) solution, steady and unsteady two-dimensional (2D) RANS and hybrid calculations are performed at several radii to investigate the potential and the viscous interactions between the blade rows of the propulsion pump. The unsteady features of the existing propulsor stator-rotor interaction are similar to those of a turbine blade-row interaction investigated earlier. Both the propulsor and the turbine have a larger unsteady pressure response on the upstream stator blades than the downstream rotor blades.
