A model of the wheelset-drive of electrical traction vehicles is developed considering the vertical high frequency dynamics of the wheelset-track interaction. Using the new model first results are presented for a line stability analysis of the vertical wheelset behaviour, for the frequency response and for the time step solution with respect to excitations of vertical track irregularities. The results of the simulations have proved that the amplitude of oscillations is varying to a high extend as a result of the track irregularities. So the first step to obtain a system-optimized drive control is almost completed. In order to proceed the authors will take advantage of these results. They have proved that the amplitude of oscillations is varying to a high extent as a result of the truck irregularities. Therefore the concept of a new adhesion controller can be based in the online detection of the actual working point on the creepforce-creepage-curve. Necessary tools are a state observer and a simplified state model in order to simulate the dynamic behaviour of the traction drive in parallel.
