This paper discusses the present and future technologies of propulsion systems to be used in electric and hybrid vehicles. The main emphasis is on the reduction of emissions from different types of vehicles. The trend in the technologies of energy storage devices, motors, power electronic system, auxiliary power units, prime movers and generators are discussed. The propulsion system configuration from sub-car to heavy duty vehicles is proposed.
