The paper presents a new numerical model capable of predicting one dimensional transient behaviour of oil and gas distribution in a horizontal pipeline caused by pressure or mass flow rate changes. The solution algorithm is based on the method of characteristics, employing a three point second order modified Euler predictor corrector integration. Emphasis is given to simplicity such that the numerical method need not to be as complex as current techniques used in oil and gas industry. The proposed model has the advantage of a clear separation in handling the closure laws and the treatment of the numerical scheme. An effective flow regime dependent algorithm has been used for void fraction and shear stress based an relations of wall friction.
