Although suitable to satisfy the demands for increasing cost/efficiency in computer aided engineering, industry has widely failed to invest in parallel distributed memory computer technologies: The significant amount of work required to move commercial software to such computers has stalled their take up in industry, and thus prevent the extra competitiveness of this technology from being fully utilised. Therefore, the European Commission has decided to promote industry through the Europort project by partially funding the porting of industrially relevant codes. This presentation gives an overview of the fluid dynamics and structural mechanics activities. It covers recent progresses for well-known codes like MSC/NASTRAN, PERMAS and SAMCEF (structural mechanics), PAM-CRASH and LS-DYNA (crash simulation), STAR-CD, CFDS-FLOW3D, PHOENICS, and N3S (computational fluid dynamics), and others.
