A mathematical simulation of the steady-state operation of a multi-effect stack (MES) distiller was carried out using a number of simplifying assumptions. The distiller consists of a two-tier arrangement in which feed water is pumped to the top effect via a number of preheaters. The computer program which was prepared based on the simulation models of the different plant components was applied to an MES distiller having the same design and operational characteristics as the distiller currently in operation at Abu Dhabi, UAE. The results of the simulation program were then compared with the actual test results from the operating plant. Agreement between the theoretical and test results was found to be good.
