In this article, major methods employed in the course of rationalization in the author's company relative to the production of large bored slow speed SULZER type diesel engines will be described with emphasis on the following points: 1. past trends in diesel engine production, 2. application of block assembly system, 3. application of numerical control machine tools, 4. simplification of shop trial, 5. installation of complete diesel engine unit on board, 6. transferring assembly and testing, 7. development of V-movement.
