The principal qualities demanded of a diesel engine for industrial automobiles are relating to overall power and easy functioning. The search of these qualities has led to the development of engines with effective average pressure and with high rotation speeds. Output was improved by acting on air turbulence and by ameliorating fuel pulverization. Most diesel engines constructed in France are of 4 strokes, but thanks to perfectionings in the compressors, the two stroke engine seems on the verge of being developed. Moreover, generalized use of more resistant metals has permitted the reduction of lost space and useless weight. The industry of diesel engines must be encouraged but in certain countries the excessive price of gas-oil limits the application of these engines to vehicles of heavy tonnage.
