Hot exhaust gas from the gas turbines constitutes a problem for the operation of oil platforms offshore. The exhaust gas may blow past the helicopter landing path making helicopter operations hazardous or for other wind directions, personnel may be exposed to the toxic components in the flue gas. In order to avoid problems arising from the exhaust gas efflux it is of the utmost importance for the platform operator to locate optimal positions of the exhaust outlets. The operators' tool to locate these positions is normally platform models tested in a wind tunnel. This paper discusses briefly the use of wind tunnel techniques in this context and presents results from wind tunnel measurements. Comparisons with numerical calculations and with measurements on existing installations are made.
