This paper reviews current gas engine technology with particular reference to gas fuelling system, engine emissions, engine performance and fuel economy. A novel multipoint gas fuel injection system is proposed and the system configurations and operating principle are described in detail. The proposed gas fuel injector system consists of non-moving part fluidic injector stages, capable of handling large amount of gas flow for engine operation and an electro-fluidic solenoid interface for switching control and air-gas mixing nozzles to improve mixing quality. The identified fluidic evices have been evaluated on a laboratory test rig and preliminary test results of the operating characteristics of the fluidic device were obtained and presentd in the paper. It is envisaged that such a gas fuel injection system will provide improved air-fuel ratio control and reduced exhaust emissions and potentially offering considerable cost and performance benefits for natural gas engines.
