This paper presents the results of studies investigating the use of ultrahigh-pressure, direct-pumped abrasive suspension jets and modified, entrainment-type abrasive-waterjets for cutting under up to 6000 m of water. The paper specifically addresses the operational performance characteristics of each system. It was found that the abrasive suspension jet system is more effective and easier to operate in the laboratory and potentially in the field.
