The paper describes a methodology for interactive, reliability-based design optimization of structures. Formulation of his methodology involves adaptation and new developments in component disciplines: data base for structural materials, design sensitivity analysis, stochastic modelling of load and strength processes and interactive optimization. The main objective of this work is to demonstrate the computational feasibility of the proposed strategy and to evaluate potential benefits from applications to advanced aerospace structures.
